TrueCrypt is a software system for establishing and maintaining an on-the-fly-encrypted volume
(data storage device). On-the-fly encryption means that data are automatically encrypted or
decrypted right before they are loaded or saved, without any user intervention. No data stored on
an encrypted volume can be read without using the correct password or encryption key. Until
decrypted, a TrueCrypt volume appears to be nothing more than a series of random numbers.
Entire file system is encrypted (i.e., file names, folder names, contents of every file, and free
space). TrueCrypt never writes decrypted data to any storage device (it only temporarily writes
data being decrypted to RAM).

Wouldnt that be slow. Having to decrypt the data then copy it to the RAM. It would be fast on the RAM but the decryption part will be almost like compressing your HDD.....

shai-tan,

I currently use TrueCrypt on a partion of my hard drive to make a hidden partion and to mount the partion you have to load TrueCrypt and enter aouto-mount then input a password. After you enter the right password the partion gets mapped and you drive is ready. this are many warez out there that do this but this stuff is free and works well.

Well if I'd seen "Virtual Drive Creator" or something of the like in your first post. I wouldnt have believed it encrypts the whole HDD. Wink

Sorry shai-tan I'm just too lazy to cut & paste the whole description fro the web site Razz Yea, I like it and it work fast with many different types of encryption choices for your encrypted drive. Just as always be careful when formatting a partition on an active windows PC. I recommend using a small second hard drive for this.
