I think you got no results, because the password was not in your dictionary files. Also brute force could of easily got this password. That's not the hybrid attack, it goes faster if you only want to append numbers. But about the Rules file. It depends on what you need it for. I almost only use it if I really need to find some hard password, because it has a lot of nice options. Then for example place a normal dictionary in set1, and one with numbers in set2. Then in the "Combined Dictionary Attack", pick set1 and set2 and keep the two other options at <Not Specified>.
