Hi, I recently finished a rainbow table using lower-alpha charset and plaintext range 4 - 9, the idea was to get this table to crack md5 hashes that I gained on phpBB2 boards through SQL Injection. After all the hours of work I soon realised that the program wouldn't accept my hash, saying it was an invalid hash, I gathered some other hashes from other various websites and the program turned them all down as being "invalid."

Can anyone help me with this please? Or tell me where I have gone wrong?

Thanks, Zxcs

The program I used was the one from http://www.antsight.com/zsl/rainbowcrack/. The tables are named:

md5_loweralpha#4-9_0_2100x8000000_all.rt
md5_loweralpha#4-9_1_2100x8000000_all.rt
md5_loweralpha#4-9_2_2100x8000000_all.rt
md5_loweralpha#4-9_3_2100x8000000_all.rt
md5_loweralpha#4-9_4_2100x8000000_all.rt

I tried finding the test hashes that are supplied with the program in the tables and the failed to show up, the program accepted them, the just didn't show up. Oh, and the tables have been sorted.

Thanks again, Zxcs

Zxcs,

Well first off you did use the right program Wink . Now the only thing I see off is the character range being 4-9 character instead of 1-9. I'm not 100% sure but I think all tables have to start with 1-? So this maybe your problem. Post a few of the MD5 hashes you couldn't crack and I will try to see if my tables can read them (Note do not include where the hashes can from). I have md5_loweralpha all ready made if you would like a copy just e-mail me and I will see about getting you a copy on DVD unless you have an FTP.

Zxcs,

Well I now see your problem. That hash is not long enough.
Your hash : 19ceac045b33167316e40aaec
Valid hash : e9177281669226801a648a0e4e3fcef5

It has to be 16 bytes long and yours is not. Your tables might be fine the hash you have is not complete. I hope this info helps.

Here try your tables on these hashes:
Code:
3cf989f07bddb0e28d206490c1ba12b7
b5d0c0bb2c6b8a9278aef71238238363
b7e136235b86235de6b9eaa9c6b14d28
a8f9f60c5b998200626689f0c98b3e14
ccb719dab8ce941b98eecefee33d866d
48c2817fc56e5de4d5b593ca322d404b
4296789e34e125214f641fd1a9096bac
eb43eb152bd5caddaaa8a31757627d40
81c591ca6b7457badc1dfbd994b18442
e9177281669226801a648a0e4e3fcef5

If you can crack them then your tables are fine.

I've tried them with valid hashes (from a hash calculator and yours) and it looks for them but doesnt find them. The hash I had was from a phpbb2 forum, I've tried about 4 hashes from forums and they all too short, any ideas why?

Thanks, Zxcs

I'm no PHP expert I would ask WarAxe or IceNix why you MD5's are not the full size. As for your tables not finding any of the hashes I posted I think your tables might not be any good. Sorry to tell you that after spending days making them. Again I can copy my tables to a DVD if you like or I can upload them to an FTP if you have one. This will save you from having to make new tables. (I HAVE ABOUT 10 gIG OF TABLES)
