That's not an md5 hash but sha1 Smile md5 is 32 characters, sha1 is 40. It could also be a MySQL5 hash (which is a double sha1 hash).

If you're looking for bruteforcing, I'd give hashcat a try. If you have a good GPU, you might want to look for a GPU bruteforcing tool, which is much faster than CPU bruteforcing Wink
