.shadow file holds

Code:
$1$caC4pe9t$Ec4AhuG46k3k4bsQutN5Q0

Obviously it's encrypted. If it'd be decrypted what would it hold?

It's Unix-style md5 hash, where salt is "caC4pe9t" and resulting hash is "Ec4AhuG46k3k4bsQutN5Q0". And ... md5 hashing is done ~ 1000 times ...
So it is hard and slow to crack, but i will try it later Smile

What do you use to decrypt it?

You can't decrypt hashes, but you can crack them with cain and abel using brute force or word lists.

I know that, but still people call it decrypting. You could also say you don't crack the particular hash, you just happen to find the same (known) hash.
