Maybe that shadow file contains stuff like this:
Code: |
root:$1$e8aD.GAJ$RVs8vl4KaXt/hr2pLAHjc.:12515:0:99999:7:::
|
$1$ means, that it's md5 one-way hash.
"e8aD.GAJ" - those 8 characters are salt for making password cracking harder.
"RVs8vl4KaXt/hr2pLAHjc" - it's base64 encoded md5 hash of the salted password.
As soon, as i can understand, there is no help from rainbow crack in current moment in case of salted passwords.[/quote] |
