Probably because MD5's are 32 characters in length... Thats 34 =)

wtf i might not know how many Chars each type of hash is but doesn't mean im an idiot and there's no reason to flame me

The easiest way to identify a hash that is longer then 32 characters (If you think its an MD) is those first 3 characters, Most likely it will start with a $, It is a prefix for a specific type. After 5 minutes or so of searching HashKiller, I found a wonderful post made by K9.

^^ This will anaylse any of your hashes and tell you what they are, Its not perfect so it might not always be right
