.shadow file holds
Code: | $1$caC4pe9t$Ec4AhuG46k3k4bsQutN5Q0 |
Obviously it's encrypted. If it'd be decrypted what would it hold? |

It's Unix-style md5 hash, where salt is "caC4pe9t" and resulting hash is "Ec4AhuG46k3k4bsQutN5Q0". And ... md5 hashing is done ~ 1000 times ...
So it is hard and slow to crack, but i will try it later |

What do you use to decrypt it? |

You can't decrypt hashes, but you can crack them with cain and abel using brute force or word lists. |

I know that, but still people call it decrypting. You could also say you don't crack the particular hash, you just happen to find the same (known) hash. |
